ALUMNI PLAYER OF THE WEEK - December. 1 , 2008

It wasn’t until the National Championship game that Tim Tebow threw two interceptions in a game in his Florida career.
It didn’t matter.
The Gators won their second national title in three years thanks to Tebow’s 231 yards passing and 109 yards rushing in a 24-14 win over Oklahoma that pitted two Heisman Trophy winners against each other for the second time ever.
Tebow (Class of 2004) got the Gators on the board in the first quarter, hitting Louis Murphy with a 20-yard strike in the first quarter. His second touchdown pass sealed the win, a four-yard pass to David Nelson with 3:07 left in the game to give the game it’s final margin.
Tebow finished the game completing 18 of 30 passes, and the two interceptions matched the number he threw in the 13 previous games. While his completion percentage was not too impressive, he completed his last six passes of the game during a 6 minute, 52 second scoring drive that ended in the pass to Nelson.
Tebow outdueled Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, who edged Tebow for a second straight Heisman Trophy last month. Tebow finished third despite having the most first place votes, behind Bradford and Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.
An Oklahoma defender added some spice to the game, saying in the build up that Tebow would only be the fourth-best quarterback in the Big 12.
"I was already motivated for a national championship game. But you know, there was some trash talking going on, and it just gets me going during the game," said Tebow after the win, the Associated Press reported.
The win was Tebow’s second in a row against a top-ranked team, having knocked off No. 1 Alabama in the SEC title game.
